Welcome to HUEY Pediatric Physical Therapy
Providing concierge in-home services specializing in pediatric physical therapy for children with complex neuromuscular challenges in Marin County, California.
Meet Dr. Brenda Huey, PT, DPT
Licensed Physical Therapist
I have been practicing in pediatric physical therapy for over 10 years and specialize in working with neurodevelopmental conditions such as: cerebral palsy, genetic conditions, and epilepsy.
My approach to therapy is targeted, holistic, and individualized. I utilize a strong focus on treating the brain and neurological system; after all, Cerebral Palsy is a condition of the brain. The characteristics that are seen in children with cerebral palsy and similar neurological conditions such as: high tone, low tone, dystonia, spasticity, weakness, motor delay, lack of coordination, presence of primitive reflexes, etc. are all symptoms of brain damage. Rather than just treating the symptoms, we need to treat at the level of the brain to improve learning and brain development through neuroplasticity for improved performance of movement and mobility. By providing the right input for the brain, we can change the motor output.
An example, primitive reflexes often are the simplest pathways for the brain to take. However, deferring to the easiest strategy can prevent us from moving with better quality, variability and complexity. By using the sensory system to access and form connections to the brain, we can integrate primitive reflexes so that this is not the first and only path a child can use to move. Remember, movement is simply an output of the brain.
I use a variety of modalities and interventions to create a multi-sensory approach to treatment. Combining neuroplasticity/reflex integration approaches with traditional physical therapy modalities to effect change both at the neurological level and at the kinematic muscle level. This is not the typical therapy aimed to “stretch and strengthen”.
Every child is unique and deserves an individualized approach to determine what success looks like to them and how we can get there in a way that is meaningful to them. Ultimately, the goal for therapy is to see children thrive within our sessions, and feel empowered to move within their world.
My professional training includes:

Task Specific Electrical Stimulation (TASES)

“Brenda is the most phenomenal, dedicated, and competent physical therapist that I have ever met and worked with. I have known and worked with her for over eight years as she has used her kindness, creativity, and professionalism to bless the mobility of my daughter. I continue to be impressed and grateful for her skill and compassion. Brenda is an absolute super star physical therapist that I have absolutely no hesitation in fully recommending her, her skills, and her abilities to any other client.”
“R” was so engaged and having such a nice, safe, happy time exploring her own abilities and potentiality – It was like, here is what I wish PT could have been like for her all along, and now she finally has all that!!”
“I was so thoroughly impressed by “M” doing the sit up from laying and then standing up with her walker. It is a HUGE accomplishment. We have worked on some of these for a long time and “M” has done parts of that but never the whole thing without someone assisting her.... KUDOS to you and thank you for your hardwork and commitment to “M”. I couldn’t stop my tears seeing that piece of work!!!!!”
Response to client taking their first independent steps in PT:
“OMG Brenda. I kind of freaked out when I watched this video in my car while driving down the road!!! I couldn't wait - I should have pulled over. I haven't had a minute without running around to send it out or post it but I've already let the entire world know what is going on. This is like the dreams my mom and I have and always talk about. This is A-maxing!” -Mom
“I have tears in my eyes. I've often dreamt that one day she would walk and this THAT DAY!” -Grandmom
“Thank you so much for spending your valuable time with our family. I sincerely do not have the right words to express what it was like seeing my daughter walk, and it was all because you took the time! Thank you, so much. Brenda, so impressed with your professionalism and willingness to work with us...many thanks again!!!”
